THE HISTORY
Stratta Since 1836
The doors of Stratta first opened in the distant year of 1836, when master confectioners Stratta and Reina chose the portion of arcades overlooking the beautiful Piazza San Carlo to leave their workshops and open a pastry shop and retail business.
In 1858, Grandfather Oreste and Grandmother Luisa, experts in sweets and catering in Las Flores, Venezuela, returned to Turin and decided to purchase the small shop, which was renamed Fratelli Stratta
. That day, almost two centuries ago, marked the beginning of our sweet family history.

Stratta Quickly Became Very Famous
Its sweet and exclusive creations, rare for that “era, and”the location under the most beautiful and vast arcades in Europe of those years, made it the reference point for a highly refined audience, even winning over the Royal Family, which granted it the most coveted and prestigious title of the time: Suppliers to the Royal House
.
In the 19th Century Stratta was among the most beautiful cafés in Europe and already stood out for its remarkable sensitivity to innovation, to the point that, as early as 1840, it was one of the first shops to install outside gas lighting.
At the beginning of the 20th century, its avant-garde approach to pastry-making and chocolate processing earned it numerous international awards, including the Diploma of Honor Turin 1902
, the Grand Diploma of Honor Milan 1903
, and the Gold Medal Budapest 1907
.
At the end of the 1950s, the traditional retail activity was complemented by banqueting catering, bringing elegance and excellence to a new sector, serving events and grand occasions.
Today we have further expanded our range of services to meet the evolving needs of our customers and offer them a complete experience.

THE LOCATION
Piazza San Carlo 191, Historic Establishment of Italy
The shop in Piazza San Carlo is a true institution in Turin: when Stratta and Reina decided to leave the confines of their workshops to have a public retail space, the equestrian monument of Emanuele Filiberto, known as ‘L Caval ‘d Brons
, had not yet been erected in Piazza San Carlo.
The shop was located inside the 18th-century Palazzo Solaro del Borgo, currently owned by the Società del Whist-Accademia Filarmonica, one of the few remaining intact examples of 19th-century interior design.
As an ancient and prestigious establishment, with at least seventy years of history and a venue for important moments and figures in Italian history, the property is part of the Historic Places of Italy
Association, under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities.
Indeed, its archives and walls tell important pages of Italian history.
Not only did the House of Savoy pay homage to it with the recognition of “Suppliers to the Royal House”.
Count Cavour was also a very devoted customer. His order of twenty-nine kilos of marrons glacés, eighteen of sorbet, thirty-seven of candied fruit, and then dry pastries, jams, and meringues, for an exorbitant total of 2,547 lire and 60 cents, went down in history in the “arduous attempt to seek support for the newborn Kingdom of” Italy, taking the ambassadors of “Europe by the throat.
These were the times when Turin was the capital, and the City was the scene of parties, balls, and receptions. There was no” social or political event in which Stratta was not a protagonist.
STAFF AND LABORATORY
The People Who Make
the Difference
Behind our colorful display windows, the sweet creations displayed in the shop or sold online, our banquets set up and served with absolute precision, there is a place where everything is born and where the care and distinctiveness of past centuries are preserved: the laboratory.
Here, our pastry chefs and master chocolatiers constantly refine their arts, remaining firmly anchored to tradition. In seemingly simple gestures, there lies the constant pursuit of the most exceptional result.
